Smart babysitters prepare for emergencies. If a child you are babysitting has a seizure, you need to know what to do.
When I was a young mother, my oldest son, who was almost two at the time, had a seizure. I remember it scared me pretty bad. I panicked because I didn’t know a thing about seizures. Luckily, my grandmother was there, and was calm, and rolled my son on his side. I called 911. About that time my son was coming out of his seizure – but then had another one!
The paramedics came and took him to the hospital. There, they told me his seizure was probably brought on by a spike in his temperature. Fortunately, it hasn’t happened since, and he’s in high school now.
So, I want to tell you what I have learned since that experience, so you don’t end up a basket case like I was.
In my book I tell you how to tell if someone is having a seizure, what causes a seizure, and 6 simple steps to follow if a child you are babysitting has a seizure. This chapter will help you be prepared.
