Back in my babysitting days, some of my customers (the parents) would pay me extra if I tidied up the house a little before they came home. How did I know they would pay me extra? Well, I didn’t – until I cleaned up the first time and saw their reaction. They all liked coming home to a cleaner house and some of them paid me a bonus. Bonus Customers were some of my favorite customers. And I was their favorite babysitter.
Now, I never cleaned by myself until after the children had gone to bed. I figured I could sit around and watch TV or I could earn more money. While the children were up, I focused all my attention on them.
Then I figured out how I could let the children do most of the work. Notice how I said “LET the children do most of the work”? They loved it. And who am I to deny them such a good time? I call this method of cleaning the “Scavenger Hunt”.
The Scavenger Hunt
I still use the Scavenger Hunt to this day, to get my own children to clean their rooms and even help clean the whole house. So, in my book I tell you all the details. Yes, this is a teaser to get you to read the book.
You’ll be a Hero
When your customer comes home they’ll be impressed that you cleaned – and perhaps give you that bonus. The next morning the kids will show mom and dad their task sheets with the stickers and tell how much fun they had cleaning. Mom and dad will look at each other in amazement and wonder how you did it. They’ll think about you first, the next time they need a babysitter.
