It’s like a fairytale success story: Babysitter lives a blah life. Babysitter discovers SpaghettiOs. Babysitter becomes a mega babysitting star. Ok, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch. But let me tell you how SpaghettiOs changed my life.
When I started babysitting I did the usual babysitter thing – I followed kids around the house. Made sure they didn’t hurt themselves. Broke up fights. Cleaned up messes. Changed diapers. Did homework. Watched TV. Collected my pay. And went home.
Then one day, fate bonked me on the head and changed everything.
The Day that Changed Everything
I had just arrived at a customer’s home and the mom was hunting for something to give the kids for dinner. One of them asked for SpaghettiOs. “I’m sorry honey,” she said. “We’re out of SpaghettiOs.” He was so disappointed. So the next time I came, I brought a can of SpaghettiOs with me. He was so excited. From that point on, every time I came to babysit, I brought SpaghettiOs. He would wait at the window for me.
In my book I share with you what I learned from that experience and all it led to, which made me actually look forward to babysitting. Customers treated me differently too – more like a friend than a babysitter. Some customers even made me feel like family. And it all started with a can of SpaghettiOs
